Lot #6 California Dreamin’ - These Are a Few of Our Favorite Wines

Enhance your wine collection with exceptional California cabernets and Bordeaux blends from some of California’s finest winemakers and vintages. These favorites from the personal cellars of the SFCASA Sommeliers are among the most sought-after and scarce wines out there – if you could even find them for sale. Michelle Griffin & Tom Parker and Margaret Keane & Bruce Bales have dug deep into their cellars to offer these beautiful collectibles that can become part of your cellar.

2019 Spottswoode, Wine Advocate 98 points, Wine Enthusiast Best of the Year

The wine came across as rather forward and supple, with lush tannins framing ample fruit on the medium to full-bodied palate. Impeccably balanced, with tremendous length on the cool, refreshing finish, it manages to showcase the warmth and generous nature of the site and vintage without going over the top.

2017 Morlet Family Mon Chevalier, Vinous 96 points

The 2017 ‘Mon Chevalier’ is rich, deep, and unctuous, with all the character that makes wines from this site so exciting. Graphite, inky blue/purplish fruit, spice, and lavender infuse the 2017 with tremendous complexity. In the glass, the 2017 is savory, rich and expansive, not to mention hugely appealing.

Zakin 2017, Vinous 94 points

The 2017 Zakin Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is rich, ample, and creamy…with tremendous depth and resonance that carries through all the way to the finish. Super-ripe red cherry fruit, pomegranate, mint, spice and blood orange are some of the many aromas that round out this super expressive wine. Sweet floral notes brighten up the finish. Another strong vintage from this small Howell Mountain Estate.

Arrow & Branch 2017 Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard, Wine Advocate 94+, Jeb Dunnuck 98

Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes charging out of the glass with bold notions of blackberry pie, crème de cassis and black cherry compote plus hints of cigar box, iron ore, lilacs and fragrant soil. Full-bodied, the palate has both richness and elegance, with a fine-grained texture and tons of freshness on the finish.

Hunnicut Brinkman Block 2017

Sourced from the barrel auction at the Napa Valley wine auction - Priceless

2017 Lail Vineyards  J. Daniel Cuvee 2017, Jeb Dunnuck 96+

Rocking levels of cassis, graphite, vanilla, scorched earth, and tobacco all flow to a full-bodied Cabernet that has building tannins, a terrific, deep, layered mid-palate, and a great finish.

2007 Snowden The Ranch, Wine Advocate 95

The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon The Ranch is sensational. Dense ruby/purple-hued with notes of cassis, licorice, chocolate, cedar, and coffee, it is a long, rich, flamboyant, exuberant effort …This full-bodied offering is a classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon combined with a finesse and minerality that is unusual in California.

2007 Larkmead Solari, Wine Advocate 97

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Solari Reserve unfurls slowly in the glass to reveal youthful crushed black plums and blackberries on the nose with an undercurrent of menthol, dried herbs, forest floor, cassis and cedar chest plus a touch of roses. The big, rich, full-bodied palate delivers layer upon layer of black fruit preserves and savory flavors with a firm yet seductively velvety texture and just enough freshness, finishing very long and wonderfully decadent.

2009 Lewelling Vineyards Wight, Wine Advocate 95

The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Wight Vineyard is a huge wine bursting with dark red fruit, flowers and sweet spices. The 2009 needs quite a bit of bottle age to shed its baby fat, but it is impressive, even at this early stage. Firm yet silky tannins frame the textured, generous finish.

Schrader Cellars 2013 LPV Beckstoffer Las Piedras, 94 points Robert Parker. Comes from clone 337.

This is a rather earthy style for a Schrader wine, with less drama and flamboyance, but great fruit, a more meaty, dusty style with underbrush as well as blackcurrants, with spicy oak. It’s dense, full-bodied and promises to age nicely for 20
more years.

2007 Larkmead Vineyards, LMV Salon , Wine Advocate 97

Deep garnet colored with a remaining hint of purple, the 2007 LMV Salon is provocatively scented of crème de cassis, baked plums and black cherry preserves with hints of cigar box, pencil lead, dried Provence herbs, Indian spices and smoked meats. Full-bodied, rich and boldly fruited, the palate is still wonderfully youthful yet just starting to blossom out into an array of perfumed and spicy layers, structured with velvety tannins and finishing with fantastic freshness.

2007 Maybach Family Vineyards Materium, Wine Advocate 99

Blackberry, black raspberry, blueberry, and cassis aromas intermixed with notes of crushed rocks, spring flowers, and toasty new oak are found in this beauty. Outstanding intensity along with full-bodied power and beautifully integrated acids, tannins, alcohol, and wood suggest this 2007 should hit its peak in 5-7 years and evolve for three decades or more.

Wines personally selected, professionally stored, and donated by SFCASA champions and house sommeliers Margaret Keane & Bruce Bales and Michelle Griffin & Tom Parker.
Value: $3,380 – priceless
